A San Francisco high school will be closed through the weekend because of a stomach flu outbreak that's sickened dozens of students.

Officials at St. Ignatius College Preparatory say about 50 students called in sick Tuesday and more than 90 were sent home after becoming ill at school.

Principal Patrick Ruff initially announced that the school would close only on Wednesday to allow crews time to sanitize and deep-clean the building. A spokesman now says it will remained closed until Monday to give the cleaning crews more time to work.

Stomach flu is a virus that can cause diarrhea and vomiting.

Ruff is urging students who are ill to remain home for at least three days after their symptoms stop.

The parochial school in the city's Outer Sunset district enrolls about 1,500 students.
