It's tough to go completely anonymous on an Apple mobile device, despite the private browsing capabilities of the Safari browser. But today, The Onion Browser became available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch in the App Store.   The ultraprivate browser is named for its many layers of security. A  Windows and Mac version of Tor  (short for The Onion Router)  has long been available to hacktivists such as Anonymous, but also anyone who just wants to use the Internet without worrying about being tracked by pesky companies selling their data to advertisers.   The Onion Browser for iOS sends data through servers to obscure your IP address, encrypting your data and turning your browsing history into a virtual maze of unidentifiable addresses. The result? Websites you visit never see your computer's IP address and don't even know you're using an iPhone or  iPad  — you and your device are anonymous.   Ready to get started? Download the program from the App Store and tap the Onion Browser instead of Safari each time you want to browse in private. You can expect slower load times — as much as a few seconds or more as your data is sent through multiple servers. To access other options like assigning a new IP address, use the arrow-in-a-box icon at the bottom of your screen.   The Onion Browser is not officially part of the Tor Project, but a dime of the $1 purchase price goes to support the nonprofit organization as well as the  Electronic Frontier Foundation , a San Francisco-based privacy advocate.
