Five years after the release of "Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2," Ubisoft has finally added a new edition, "Future Soldier."

Like its previous versions, "Future Soldier" delivers a great deal of exciting shooting thrills both online and off, and it jumps into completely different situations more than you might expect.

The game puts you in the shoes of a Ghost, a high-tech soldier who, along with teammates, investigates an explosion that wiped out a previous crew of soldiers. You’ll spend each mission hunting crucial targets, trying to extract information to get to the bottom of the terrorist act. [ Mass Effect Infiltrator for iPad and iPhone ]

"Ghost Recon: Future Soldier" features various action segments. One minute, you’re storming a battlefield with your team while throwing sonar grenades to triangulate enemy positions in the area. The next, you’re using active camo gear (think of the movie "Predator") to sneak around unnoticed. Other sequences include manning the turret on a fast-moving helicopter and controlling a well-armed robotic drone. [ Three Amazing Videos From Robot Copters ]

The gameplay is solid in both shooting scenarios: you can shoot using either a third-person zoom or a first-person "through the iron sights" viewpoint. "Future Soldier" also supports team play, as you can "tag" targets to be taken out simultaneously, and call upon friends to join you in co-op action. If you’re a more competitive type, "Future Soldier" also provides plenty of online multiplayer action; for example, through the Guerrilla survival mode in which waves of enemies come charging at you.

On presentation, "Future Soldier" lags "Call of Duty 3 Modern Warfare" and "Battlefield 3." Some of the animations are great, but the environments appear unfinished at times, and the civilians just don’t look realistic. At least the sound retains its quality, between constant chatter with your teammates and well-timed musical cues, which kicks up with the on-screen action.

Though it’s a little rough in spots, "Ghost Recon: Future Soldier" delivers the kind of action that lives up to the Tom Clancy name – especially if your friends are happy to enlist with you.
