Top 4 iOS 6 Features

Apple today (June 11) announced its new operating system iOS 6 for iPhone and iPad, but not everyone is invited to this party.   The new system will be compatible beginning with the iPhone 3GS and the iPad 2 — older models will not be able to upgrade to the new system when it becomes available this fall.   Much of the update was related to Siri, Apple's built-in voice assistant. She's learned some new tricks, including answers to sports, restaurant and movie questions — pretty impressive, based on the demo. (Do you know who's the taller of LeBron James and Kobe Bryant? Siri knows it's LeBron.)   It's important to remember that only iPhone 4S owners can run Siri on their phones. However, Siri will be part of iOS 6 for third-generation iPad owners.   But iOS 6 had plenty of new features that will work on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and 4S. Here are the top four:

However, Siri will be part of iOS 6 for third-generation iPad owners.   But iOS 6 had plenty of new features that will work on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and 4S. Here are the top four:

  1. Facebook integration that will make it easier to post to  Facebook , access Facebook via Siri and see updates in the Notification Center.  Twitter  is already part of iOS 5.
  2. Shared photo streams that will let you bundle photos and share with people from your contacts. Recipients will see a notification on their device.
  3. Passbook is a new app that's part of the new iOS. It's a place to store and use things like boarding passes, tickets you've bought online and retail gift cards. And just to keep you on your toes, Passbook has an automatic function. Have a Starbucks card? Passbook will pull it up as soon as you near one of its locations.
  4. New Maps app that looks a lot like  Google Maps  with 3D flyover views, turn-by-turn directions and real-time traffic reports coupled with "quick route" mapping. Partnerships with most major auto companies were announced that will bring a new button on steering wheels for "eyes-free" as well as hands-free use of an iPhone. For this, the phone won't even light up to eliminate the visual distraction.
