Google, Facebook and Twitter are among the companies joining forces to keep your Internet experience free of malicious advertisements and scams.
Along with AOL and the Interactive Advertising Bureau, the tech titans today (June 14) announced the formation of the Ads Integrity Alliance (AIA), a group dedicated to establishing policy recommendations for malware and scam ads, developing and sharing best practices for policing these malicious ads, and sharing trends with policymakers and law enforcement agencies.
The AIA partners will also publish aggregated data on malicious ads, provide educational content to help webmasters in preventing and removing them, and operate a community forum enabling webmasters to learn from security professionals.
Led by the Cambridge, Mass.-based nonprofit organization StopBadware, the AIA hopes to restore your trust in the ecosystem of online advertising by combating malware-rigged ads or those that try to sell counterfeit goods.
"Bad ads, such as those that facilitate malware distribution or deceive users, diminish the online user experience and threaten trust in the Web," Eric Davis, global public policy manager at Google said in a press statement.
With hordes of new bad ads and scams popping up every day and putting people at risk — Google blocked 130 million scam ads last year alone — it will be interesting to what kind of impact the Ads Integrity Alliance has.
