Pinterest has made a move to help the virtual pinboard site become more than a destination for browsing beautiful photos. The company has added permanent links on pins that originate from the craft site Etsy, the crowd-funding site Kickstarter and several others. The idea is a good one for pinners who won't have to scour the Internet to find more information, and it's also good for the sites that have "pinnable" content. Pinterest began this effort last month by adding permanent links to pins from Flickr, YouTube, Behance and Vimeo. Pinterest says it wants to give credit where credit is due. But there's more to it than attribution with the latest round of sites — there's money. See a beautiful handcrafted bag on Pinterest? Before the attribution program, you might only see the pinner's comment such as "love, love, love," if they had removed the Etsy link. Now you'll see a link to the page on Etsy that includes the name of the item and its maker. Also, the price banner stays on the photo when it's repinned, even if the repinner deletes the price from the description. (Previously, price banners only appeared if the dollar amount was included in the description field.) If you see something you want to buy, or a project to fund , as in the case with Kickstarter, you can. Music from Soundcloud, a service used by many aspiring musicians, presentations from Slideshare with its presentations and photos from 500px, a photo sharing site that's wooing quite a few professional photographers away from Flickr . Pinterest expects to add more companies soon. This move appears to be a win for all parties involved in Pinterest. Artists and other creators get credit, pinners get additional information and Pinterest supports copyright protection.
