After breaking the 50 percent mark just a few months ago, smartphones are now in the hands of 55 percent of all U.S. mobile subscribers, Nielsen announced today.

And it's just going to keep growing. According to Nielsen, two-thirds of Americans who bought a cellphone in the last three months opted for a smartphone.

Android continues to dominate, with about 52 parent of all phones, vs. the 34 percent for Apple's iOS. But both grew in the last three months, as Blackberry sales shriveled.
