How many times have you glanced at the length of a video online and decided it was simply too long to watch? Research shows that half of viewers will skip videos that are longer than 15 seconds. If you want to entertain your friends, you've got to make funny fast. A new online service called ReelSurfer is designed to do just that — make a clip from any video on any Web site and share it instantly.

With ReelSurfer, you're the editor. Enter the video url on reelsurfer.com and get to work. Currently, the site supports Vimeo and YouTube, but other video sites will be supported soon, according to ReelSurfer. You can also install a bookmarklet (essentially a button) in your browser to instantly load a  video  from the page you are viewing, without opening a new window for ReelSurfer.

Editing is simple. Play your video and use the start and stop sliders to select the segment you want. Clips are limited to 30 seconds. And that's probably the toughest part — simply choosing the best part of a video. You may preview your video as many times as you'd like. When you're satisfied, click share and send to Twitter, Facebook or to a friend by email.

ReelSurfer also generates an embed code just like YouTube, so you can show your clip on your own site.

But there's more to ReelSurfer. You can store and organize your clips by subject — "reels" is the ReelSurfer term — to build your video libary. And ReelSurfer is a destination for anyone who wants to watch the "best-of" YouTube and Vimeo in bites of 30 seconds or less.
