Samsung has issued an update to UK customers who own some of the company's most popular mobile devices.

The UK owners received a software patch addressing a flaw that exposed user data and left phones vulnerable to attacks that could potentially cripple phones permanently.

The patch will affect devices that run on the Exynos 4 system-on-a-chip, CNET reported. That includes the Galaxy S3, Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 2 and the Galaxy Tab 2.

"The issue may arise only when a malicious application is operated on the affected devices," Samsung told Android Central in a statement. "However, this does not affect most devices operating credible and authenticated applications."

Samsung has not indicated when the patch will hit North America or the rest of the world.

TechNewsDaily has contacted Samsung for comment and will update this story if it responds.
