Diana Alvear is a NBC News correspondent based in Burbank, Calif. She joined the network in July of 2012, and reports for all platforms of NBC News, including “Today,” “NBC Nightly News,” MSNBC, NBCLatino.com, and nbcnews.com.

Alvear joined NBC News from ABC NewsOne in Los Angeles, where she was a correspondent for the network’s affiliate news service. In addition to her role at NewsOne, Alvear filed reports for the weekend editions of “Good Morning America” and “World News,” as well for as the “World News” webcast. In the last few years, Alvear has covered some of the biggest international stories such as the Royal Wedding, the earthquake that hit Japan and the rescue of the Chilean miners.

Before her assignment at NewsOne, Alvear worked at WGBA-TV, the NBC affiliate in Green Bay, Wisc. She joined the station in June 2005 and worked in a variety of roles there, including anchor of the station’s morning news programs. She also served as a weekend anchor and a general assignment reporter. From July 2004 to June 2005, Alvear was a correspondent at WQOW-TV, the ABC affiliate in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She also served as the station’s chief political reporter, covering the 2004 presidential election.

A graduate of the University of Florida, Alvear studied political science. She was awarded an Eleanor Merrill Fellowship to study at the University of Maryland, earning a Master’s degree in broadcast journalism. She continues to mentor University of Maryland journalism students. Alvear is fluent in Spanish and proficient in French, and a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. She also volunteers with local pet shelters as a foster mom.
