The deadline for entering the 17th annual Webby Awards is just a day away. The event honors the best of the Web, including websites, apps and videos.

For the first time, social media mavens will be recognized in their own categories, including those who promote celebrities and those who tweet for a cause.

The entry deadline is tomorrow (Jan. 25). The nominees will be announced in April, and the hallmark Webby Awards ceremony will be held later in the spring.

For the first time, social media mavens will be recognized in their own categories, including those who promote  celebrities  and those who tweet for a cause.

Entrants will compete not only for Webbys but for their chance to deliver their Five-Word Speech — no agonizingly long Oscar-style acceptance speeches at this show.  For instance, when comedian Louis C.K. accepted his award for "Person of the Year," he said, "When I die, bye-bye."

The Webby Awards has its own free iPad, iPhone and Android apps, where you can see highlights from previous years' shows. And true to its social media mission, the Webby Awards has a  Tumblr blog, as well as the usual Facebook and Twitter accounts.
