The rankings are based on factors such as student satisfaction, post-graduate success, student debt and graduation rate. Stanford University ranked first this year.

Stanford University comes out on top in Forbes’ annual ranking of American colleges. The rankings are based on factors such as student satisfaction, post-graduate success, student debt and graduation rate. Here’s the top ten:

1. Stanford University
2. Pomona College
3. Princeton University
4. Yale University
5. Columbia University
6. Swarthmore College
7. United States Military Academy
8. Harvard University
9. Williams College
10. Massachusetts Institute of Technology

“We look at educational outcomes,” Forbes Executive Editor Michael Noer told Jansing & Co. “We don’t look at reputation, we don’t look at whether the students they accept are high-scoring going in. We look at what the school does to them. Do they go on to get good jobs?”
