A passenger was shot dead in a Manhattan subway train late Tuesday as passengers screamed and dropped to the floor for cover.

It was the third shooting in the subway in the last month. The other two victims survived.

Police were searching for two suspects who fled the station. No one had been arrested as of early Wednesday, said Sgt. Michael Wysokowski, a police spokesman.

The victim and two suspects boarded the train at the 18th Street station, one stop from where the shooting occurred, police said. The men were on opposite ends of the car, and it was unclear what transpired between them, Wysokowski said.

The 29-year-old victim, whose name was not released, was shot once in the face. The victim had several prior arrests, including one for weapons possession, police said.

Earlier this month, model-actress Monica Meadows was shot in the shoulder on a subway train in Times Square. David Hart, a business school chief executive, was shot in late May as he walked through a subway turnstile in Queens.
