“Superman” will fly again — but it looks like he won’t have the face of Jesus.
James Caviezel — who rocketed to fame as Jesus in “The Last Passion of the Christ” — is, according to widespread reports, in discussions to star in a film tentatively called “Superman Returns” directed by “X-Men” director Bryan Singer.
Caviezel is apparently quite interested in the role. “I have had no direct, face-to-face talks with Bryan Singer. All talking has been done through mediators,” Caviezel told IESB.com. “It appeals to me a great deal, but I haven’t seen a script yet. I like to play iconic characters, and I see the role of Superman as a big responsibility. Playing Superman would be a great challenge.”
Singer, however, apparently is set against the casting. “James Caviezel [is] a wonderful actor,” the director recently told Aint-It-Cool.com. “But no, I’m committed to casting an unknown.”
Caviezel, by the way, had only kind words for an earlier Superman. “ is the greatest Superman ever in my mind,” he told IESB. “The original movies transcend what is common in film because they mix comedy and drama so well.”
Coarse comments on the course
Kevin Costner played golf with his bride on their honeymoon, and made some more-than-we-need-to-know comments about his activities with his new wife.
The “Tin Cup” star and the former Christine Baumgartner teed up at the Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland as part of the Dunhill links pro-am golf tournament, but headed back to their hotel well before finishing the 18-hole course, reports the U.K.’s Daily Star.
“As you can see [Christine] is very athletic and not a bad player,” Costner said, according to the paper. “In fact she likes to play all day and play all night if you know what I mean.” And then he added, just in case we didn’t get it: “Just let’s say we have not been playing golf all the time.”
Michael Douglas was also at the game — without wife Catherine Zeta-Jones. The paper reports that the 60-year-old star “could no longer manage six rounds of golf on the trot” and “was forced to make do with a few gentle practice puts.” The actor explained that he was tired from his trip from New York, and added, “Catherine could not make it, she is in Mexico filming the next Zorro movie. One of us has to do some work.”
