The Boston area and other parts of New England are still expected to see snow Thursday, just nowhere near as much as had been predicted by the National Weather Service a day earlier.

Rain was falling in most of the region Thursday morning as temperatures remained too high for snow.

Colder air was expected to move in during the day, producing 2-4 inches of snow in areas north and west of Boston.

The National Weather Service had earlier warned that parts of the region could see as much as 20 inches by early Friday.

The snow expected Thursday would be the region's first major storm in February. Boston had more snow in January than in any month since weather records have been kept.
