Motorola Inc. said Tuesday that it reduced its previously announced fourth quarter earnings by $7 million, or less than 1 percent.

The restatement decreased profits at the world's No. 2 cell phone maker to $647 million for the period, down from the $654 million it reported on Jan. 19, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Motorola said the change was "part of its normal closing process conducted to complete year-end financial statements."

Company spokeswoman Jennifer Weyrauch noted the restatement did not change Motorola's 28-cent earnings per share for the quarter. She said the adjustment would not affect future financial statements.

The restatement was "filed in interest of full disclosure and complete transparency for all investors," Weyrauch said.
