Perchlorate has been found at sites in 36 states, including 70 Defense Department and federal facilities, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says. The chemical has also been detected at scores of other sites, including private facilities and municipal water districts.

Below are states and defense and federal facilities where perchlorate has been measured, according to EPA data:
