Sean McLaughlin serves as the weekday chief meteorologist for MSNBC and Sunday meteorologist on NBC’s “Weekend Today.”

The Emmy Award-winning meteorologist joined NBC in July 2004. Since joining the network, he has reported on a variety of weather/news stories from across the country for the “Today” show, “NBC Nightly News,” CNBC, NBC Weather Plus and MSNBC.
McLaughlin was most recently the chief meteorologist, anchor, and general assignment reporter for KPNX-TV in Phoenix, Ariz. A journalist with a diverse background, McLaughlin has covered the Emmy and Golden Globe Awards, Winter and Summer Olympic Games, and many other major sporting events including the Super Bowl, Kentucky Derby and the Daytona 500.  McLaughlin is a five-time Emmy Award winning journalist, and has also received a “Best of Gannett” company award three times for his weather and news anchoring. He also holds the Broadcast Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association.

Previously, McLaughlin served as weather anchor and general assignment reporter at KMIR-TV in Palm Springs, Calif. He began his career as a news reporter and anchor at KIMT-TV and WOI-TV in Iowa.

McLaughlin graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. He holds a certificate in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University.
