On Thursday, after the arrest of Paul van der Sloot, father of Joran van der Sloot, in connection to the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, MSNBC's Dan Abrams talked about what the arrest may mean.

There are two issues here. There is the question of why he was arrested, and the question is, what does it mean (for him) to be arrested?

On question one, why was he arrested, it is pretty clear that one of two things has happened here.

Either Mr. van der Sloot said something that has gotten into trouble. (That means after) he was interrogated by the authorities, he's done a couple of interviews with media organizations -- he did one last night. Did they see something that was inconsistent with what he told them?

Or, is it possible it was physical evidence? Remember, they impounded his cars, they have searched his house. Did they find something when they for example, too, those cars? They towed those cars away just after a week ago. They have to send it out for testing. Did they just get test results back? We don't know.

But there is clearly something that has led them to move now. This is something that has been talked about, there have been rumors about this going on for days, about the possibility of the father being arrested. But that doesn't necessarily mean that it is in connection with her disappearance, it could have been for something afterwards, etcetera.

Those are the sort of questions we don't know.
