Business software maker Oracle Corp. said Friday that it tapped former Microsoft executive Gregory B. Maffei to be president and chief financial officer.

In March, Harry You resigned after eight months as CFO to become chief executive officer of BearingPoint, and Co-President Safra Catz assumed the interim CFO role. Maffei joins Catz and Charles Phillips in the role of president, and Oracle said he will be responsible for the company's legal department, human resources, manufacturing and distribution, and global real estate.

Maffei comes to Oracle from broadband company 360networks, where he served as chairman and CEO. Before that, he was CFO of Microsoft from July 1997 to January 2000, after joining the company in 1993. Maffei also served as chairman of travel Website Expedia from 1999 until February 2002. (MSNBC is a Microosoft-NBC joint venture.)

Oracle shares closed Thursday at $12.51 on the Nasdaq, and rose 4 cents to $12.55 in premarket activity.
