The wife of incoming DaimlerChrysler AG chief executive Dieter Zetsche has been charged with hosting a party at which police say more than 20 underage drinkers were ticketed.

Gisela Zetsche, 54, of Germany had been scheduled to appear in court Thursday, but the hearing was adjourned until Sept. 13.

If convicted of having an open house party, she faces a $500 (euro406) fine.

Messages seeking comment were left Wednesday and Thursday for Gisela Zetsche's attorney, Michael Schloff.

According to an 18-page police report, residents of the Zetsche's neighborhood in suburban Detroit complained shortly before midnight June 18 of noise at the house, drinking and people throwing things at passing vehicles.

Gisela Zetsche said she bought beer for the 19th birthday party of a young man who was living with the family for the summer, according to the police report.

In Germany, the legal drinking age is 18 _ with the exception of beer, which can be purchased and drunk at age 16. The drinking age in the United States is 21.

Chrysler Group spokeswoman Shawn Morgan said Dieter Zetsche was not at home during the party.

Police arrived shortly after midnight and said they could smell alcohol from the driveway, about 50 feet (15.3 meters) away from the house. Police said they found about 100 people at the party.

After police arrived, some guests ran out the front door, according to the report. Officers said they stopped about 30 of them and found about 10 more hiding in closets.

Police found two beer kegs _ one already empty _ on the patio, as well as beer bottles, an open bottle of margarita mix and half a dozen empty liquor bottles. Several unopened cases of beer lined the garage hallway, the report said.

Dieter Zetsche, who led the resurgence of DaimlerChrysler's Chrysler Group in the United States, last month was named to replace Juergen Schrempp as the head of the world's fifth-largest carmaker at the beginning of next year.
