Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. and KB Home, one of the nation’s largest home builders, are teaming up to build a line of new houses in North Carolina that the domestic queen will design, the companies said Wednesday.

“I’m delighted to team with KB Home to create beautiful and functional homes that are filled with the design, colors, and high-quality materials that have been the inspiration for my homes over the years,” Stewart said in a statement. “Each room in the home will be carefully constructed and handsomely appointed.”

The first jointly designed community — to be named KB Home Twin Lakes: Homes Created with Martha Stewart — will feature about 650 homes in Cary, N.C., the companies said in a statement.

The dwellings will range from 1,500 to 4,100 square feet and will be priced from the low-$200,000 to mid-$400,000 range. They’ll be inspired by Stewart’s own homes in New York and Maine.

Model homes are scheduled to be completed in early 2006.

Bruce Karatz, KB Home’s chairman and CEO, said his company and Stewart hope to build developments in communities throughout the country.

Money magazine earlier this year named Cary first among the “most desirable places to live in the eastern United States.” The town of about 110,000 people is a suburb of Raleigh, N.C.
