Mindy Kaling and Nora Lum, also known by her rap moniker "Awkwafina," will be cast members in the Warner Bros-produced “Ocean’s Eight,” according to a report from Deadline. The film will be a female-centered spin-off of the “Ocean’s Trilogy,” a series of heist films released in the early-to-mid 2000s. Kaling and Lum will join a cast that is expected to include Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter.

In addition to her rap career, Lum has also appeared in MTV’s “Girl Code” and the Universal Pictures-distributed comedy “Neighbors 2.”
The project is expected to begin filming in October in New York, according to Deadline. The film is set to be directed by Gary Ross, who wrote the script with Olivia Milch. It will be produced by “Ocean’s Eleven” director Steven Soderbergh. No release date has yet been announced for the film.
