Joyce Mitchell, the now infamous prison tailor shop instructor who is charged with aiding two convicted killers in their Shawshank Redemption-style jailbreak, has been transferred back near to her old workplace to await trial, officials told NBC News Tuesday evening.

Mitchell is accused of providing contraband including chisels, hacksaw blades, a punch and screwdriver bits to inmates Richard Matt and David Sweat, and was allegedly planning to drive their getaway car the night of June 6.

Mitchell will be moved from Rensselaer County Jail to the Clinton County Jail in Plattsburgh — just 15 minutes from Clinton Prison in Dannemora, where Matt and Sweat escaped from — and is being held on $110,000 bail or $220,000 bond.

Matt, 49, was shot and killed by a tactical team of law enforcement officers in Malone, N.Y. on June 26, while Sweat was captured and shot in nearby Constable on June 28, bringing to an end a 22-day manhunt near the Canadian border.

Mitchell’s conscience got the better of her and she decided over a dinner at a Chinese restaurant that she would not go through with the plan, according to a report in the Buffalo News. She faces up to seven years in prison if convicted of the crimes — she pleaded not guilty to all charges last month.
