The wife of Justin Ross Harris, the Georgia man who is charged with murdering their 22-month-old son by leaving him in a scorching car, tried unsuccessfully Tuesday to see her husband in jail. Leanna Harris exited the Cobb County Jail and shook her head “no” when NBC News asked her if she was able to speak with him. She was then ushered into a car by another woman, burying her face in her hands as they sped off.

Leanna Harris’ role in the death of son Cooper has come under increased scrutiny after a detective testified during her husband’s bail hearing that she appeared unfazed when she learned about the boy’s death June 18 and surmised he had been left in the car. Both parents admitted to researching hot car deaths online, according to warrants. Police haven’t said whether they’re pursuing an arrest warrant for Leanna Harris, 30. Her cooperation with police could also benefit the prosecution, which is claiming Justin Ross Harris, 33, was unhappy in his marriage and wanted to live a child-free life. He faces murder and child cruelty charges, and if found guilty, could be sentenced to death.
