1. Harrison Ford saved lives in actions during plane crash: witness
The "Stars Wars" actor "saved several lives" by avoiding crashing his vintage plane into a densely populated area, an eyewitness told NBC News. The 72-year-old star was hospitalized after he ditched his World War II training plane on a Los Angeles golf course Thursday after losing engine power. He emerged from the incident conscious and alert, with a broken arm and a nasty gash to his head. His son tweeted that he was "battered," but is going to be OK. Read more in NEWS.
2. S. Korea seeks attempted murder charge in ambassador attack
South Korean police have sought a warrant against the man accused of attacking a U.S. ambassador with a knife, and plan to seek charges of attempted murder and violence on a foreign mission. Kim Ki-jong, 55, could also be charged with violating national security laws, police said Friday. Kim is accused of slashing the ambassador, Mark Lippert, in the face and arms in Seoul Thursday. The attack left Lippert with a four-inch gash on his face and a wound to his arm that required three hours of surgery. Read more in NEWS.
3. Passenger plane skids off NYC runway
A Delta Airlines flight skidded off the runway at LaGuardia Airport on Thursday afternoon and crashed into a fence as it attempted to touch down amid a swirl of snow on Thursday morning. About 3 inches had fallen in New York City when the accident occurred, with sleet and snowflakes hampering visibility. Social media quickly lit up with reactions — including from startled passengers. Twenty-eight passengers were hurt, with five of them taken to the hospital, although none of the injuries were life-threatening. Read more in NEWS.
4. Boston bombing trial: Survivors recall horror and chaos
The trial against alleged bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev picked up on its second day on Thursday with searing testimony from survivors, including Jeff Bauman, a spectator who lost his lower legs in the twin blasts and had an eerie encounter with a young man he later identified as one of the alleged attackers. The jury also heard from a dad whose 8-year-old son died and 6-year-old daughter lost a leg in the explosions. 5. NTSB official 'optimistic' in missing Malaysian jet search
Top officials leading the hunt for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 have remained outwardly optimistic about finding the aircraft, despite dropping hints that the search may be scaled back if no debris is located soon. "We clearly cannot keep searching forever," Australian Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss told Reuters one week before the anniversary of the plane's disappearance this Sunday. 6. Homeless man shot by Los Angeles police ID’d
The man who lived in downtown Los Angeles' Skid Row was identified Thursday under his real name: Charley Leundeu Keunang, 43. The Cameroon national had used a stolen identity for years, police said. Keunang died from multiple gunshot wounds during Sunday's incident with police. Bystanders caught the incident on camera, sparking protests over claims of excessive force. Read more in NEWS.
