Seeking a great Golden State comeback, Sen. Bernie Sanders attended the dramatic finish of the NBA Western Conference Finals on Monday night. Sanders has been campaigning hard across California ahead of the state's June 7 primary, in the hopes that a strong finish could upend the Democratic presidential race or give him leverage at the party's convention in Philadelphia this summer. 3. Plains Brace for More Floods, Tornadoes
Parts of Texas were under water on Tuesday as the central U.S. braced for another shock of heavy rain and potential tornadoes after a deadly string of storms. The severe weather has claimed at least eight victims in Texas since Friday — the latest fatality was discovered on Monday night in Barton Springs, Texas. Read more in WEATHER.
4. Outrage Grows After Gorilla Shot Dead at Zoo to Save Tot
Animal rights activists continued to protest Monday over the death of a gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo who was fatally shot so authorities could rescue a child who had fallen into the animal's enclosure. A change.org petition called for the parents of the 3-year-old boy to be held responsible for the death of Harambe, a 17-year-old male Western lowland silverback gorilla. And PETA criticized the zoo for not having a second protective barrier around the gorilla habitat. Read more in NEWS.
5. North Korea's Test Launch of Missile Ends in Failure: South
North Korea's test launch of a mid-range missile failed early Tuesday, South Korean defense officials said. The intermediate-range Musudan missile exploded at a mobile launch pad as soon as the button was pressed, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported without citing a source. South Korea's defense ministry confirmed it was aware of the failed launch and that more details would be released later. Read more in NEWS.
6. Verizon, Unions Reach Deal to End Strike
A tentative deal between Verizon and leaders of striking unions includes 1,400 new jobs and pay raises topping 10 percent, the company and unions representing about 40,000 workers said on Monday, hoping to end a walkout that has lasted nearly seven weeks. Read more in BUSINESS.
7. Rapper Pleads Not Guilty to Deadly Shooting at TI Concert
Rapper Troy Ave was arraigned Monday in connection with the shooting Thursday during a hip-hop concert featuring artist T.I. that killed one person and injured three others. He was arraigned on charges including attempted murder and pleaded not guilty. Read more at NBC New York.
