1. Eight killed, 12 missing in relentless floods
Severe thunderstorms in the Plains and the South could put more than 30 million Americans at risk Tuesday after a weekend of tumultuous weather. At least eight people we killed in the floods that washed away homes and downs trees in Texas and Oklahoma. Another 12 people were missing from the small Texas town of Wimberley, about 30 miles from Austin. Read more in WEATHER.
2. Cleveland reaches deal with DOJ over policing
The city of Cleveland has reached a deal with the Justice Department after an investigation found a pattern of excessive force and civil rights violations by the police department. The official announcement of the settlement is expected later this week. Read more in NEWS.
3. Was foul play involved in B.B. King’s death?
Two of B.B. King's daughters, Karen Williams and Patty King, have alleged that two of the late musician's closest aides sped up his death by poisoning him, according to The Associated Press. A Nevada coroner said an investigation into the allegations would be taken seriously and could take two months. Read more in NEWS.
4. FBI probing chemical weapons threat against planes
The FBI is looking into a series of threats phoned in Monday morning by a person who claimed chemical weapons were aboard airplanes. The threats were not deemed credible, but passengers on an Air France flight got a scare when two F-15s escorted the plane to John F. Kennedy International Airport. Read more in NEWS.
5. Iraq launches campaign to take back territory from ISIS
Iraq has launched a military campaign to drive ISIS militants out of Anbar province, senior security officials said Tuesday. The military maneuver follows the seizure of Anbar's biggest city, Ramadi, earlier this month. Read more in NEWS.
6. Man with rare disease dies in U.S. after Liberia trip
A man, who recently returned to New Jersey, from Liberia died Monday of Lassa fever, an infectious disease from West Africa that is rarely seen in the United States. Health officials said they don't think the case is cause for public alarm. Lassa fever is not spread through casual contact. Read more in NEWS.
7. Pope Francis hasn’t watched TV since 1990
Pope Francis hasn't sat down to watch a television show since July 15, 1990, he said during an interview published in the Argentinian newspaper La Voz del Pueblo. At that time, he decided TV wasn't for him, and promised the Virgin Mary that he would never watch it again. Read more in NEWS.
8. Southwest recycles old airplane seats
Instead of going to landfills, Southwest's airplane seats are being repurposed into products that are creating opportunities for thousands.
