Billboard Announces Finalists for 2016 Music Awards

For the first time in history a Mexican regional band is nominated in an English-language category for Best Latin Artist.

The finalists for the 2016 Billboard Music Awards have been announced, and for the first time in history a Mexican regional band is nominated in the English-language category of Top Latin Artist.

Ariel Camacho y Los Plebes Del Rancho is nominated for both Top Latin Artist, and their track “Te Metiste” is up for Top Latin Song. In February Ariel Camacho, the lead singer, died in a high-speed car accident on his way home from a concert in Sinaloa, Mexico.

Romeo Santos, who has been nominated for 12 Latin Billboard Awards this year, is up for three awards: Top Latin Song, Album and Artist.

Nicky Jam is a finalist in the Top Latin Artist category, and for Top Latin Song for his collaboration with Enrique Iglesias in “El Perdón.”

J Balvin, who recently collaborated with Justin Bieber in a "Sorry" remix, is a finalist in the Top Latin Song category as well for his track "Ginza."

Selena Gomez is nominated in two categories, including Top Female Artist, and Top Social Media Artist.
