Olympian Laurie Hernandez to Compete on ‘Dancing With the Stars’

After multiple amazing performances — and a gold team medal and a silver medal in the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics — Laurie Hernandez is headed to the dance floor to compete on the 23rd season of "Dancing With the Stars."

The young Latina gymnast, who is 16, will partner with Val Chmerkovskiy, 30, a Ukrainian-American professional dancer who has competed on 10 seasons of DWTS with Tamar Braxton, Ginger Zee and Zendaya.

While Hernandez is a proud member of the "Final Five" Team USA women's gymnastics team, she needs a new name for her new partnership on DWTS.

Embattled Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte will compete this season as well with pro-dancer Cheryl Burke.

"I'm definitely really excited. This is completely new for me," said Lochte to Good Morning America. "I think it's time for me to hang up the Speedo and put on my dancing shoes and get in that ballroom.

Jake T. Austin, known for his role on Disney's Wizard of Waverly Place alongside singer and actress Selena Gomez, will dance with Jenna Johnson this season.

Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry will take a turn on the Dancing stage with Emma Slater. Perry is not the first elected official on DWTS; Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay competed in Season 9.
