One user called Mexico's only female Olympic gymnast a "pseudo 'athlete'" that "fills a quota," but many fans tweeted in her defense.

Team Mexico's gymnast Alexa Moreno competed in the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, but instead of discussing her technique or skill, people took to Twitter to body shame her.

Moreno finished 28th on the floor and 31st in her all-around scoring, which eliminated her from the competition. Her critics blamed her physique for her performance; she weighs 99 pounds. One user called Mexico's only female Olympic gymnast a "pseudo 'athlete'" that "fills a quota."

Other users posted offensive photos comparing Moreno to pigs or saying she attributes her path to Rio to hot dogs. Twitter users jumped to Moreno's defense, and many of the offending tweets have been deleted.
