Clinton: Shutdown would hurt GOP, wouldn't be 'worst thing' for Dems

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that a government shutdown would hurt Republicans politically and “wouldn’t be the worst thing” for her own Democratic Party.

"We’ve seen that movie before," the possible 2016 Democratic presidential contender said at an afternoon panel at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York, according to the Associated Press.

Clinton’s husband was president during a pair of government shutdowns in 1995 and 1996, when congressional Republicans forced federal government funding gaps for a total of 27 days.

Clinton also praised President Barack Obama's health care reform law -- which Republicans hope to defund -- saying the law contains "a lot of really good things."
