Before push for war, a play for peace
As President Barack Obama prepares to make his case to the American people to use force in Syria, France announced it will seek a U.N. Security Council resolution demanding Syria place its chemical weapons under international control. The resolution could create a framework for the United States and its allies to accept a Russia-brokered diplomatic solution to the crisis. President Obama will need to be very persuasive when he speaks Tuesday night about using force in Syria: Just 24 percent of Americans believe military action in response to Bashar Assad’s reported use of chemical weapons is in the U.S. interest, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. That’s why authorities are warning residents in the San Francisco Bay Area to seal themselves in their homes as smoke spreads from a growing wildfire in mountains to the east. Honeymoon is over: Bride charged in groom's death
It’s a script straight out of Law & Order. They were newlyweds, but she was having second thoughts about the 8-day-old marriage, court documents say. They drove the short distance from their Montana home to Glacier National Park, where they got into an argument. He grabbed her by the arm, but she pulled away and shoved him face-first off a cliff to his death. Two months after Cody Lee Johnson's body was found, federal prosecutors gave their version of what happened to the 25-year-old Kalispell man, and his wife, Jordan Linn Graham, 22, appeared in federal court on a second-degree murder charge. Driver who said he 'killed a man' in online video due in court
An Ohio man who allegedly struck and killed a 61-year-old veteran after a night of heavy drinking and then shot a video begging viewers to never drink and drive is to make his initial appearance in court today. A grand jury has charged Matthew Cordle, 22, with aggravated vehicular homicide and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Read more at NBC News.
