New York City Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio met with Mayor Michael Bloomberg in City Hall on Wednesday to discuss his transition after a decisive electoral victory to become the city’s next leader.
The progressive de Blasio waged his campaign largely on advocating for the city’s poorest residents, criticizing Bloomberg for allowing income inequality in New York to grow during his 12 years in office. But during their meeting Bloomberg, who did not endorse a candidate in the race, congratulated de Blasio and pledged his help throughout the transition process.
“We had a very, very productive meeting this morning for about an hour and he and his team have been very forthcoming, very positive in offers of help, every kind of assistance. It’s obvious that this is going to be a smooth and productive transition,” de Blassio told reporters after the meeting.
