A car slammed into a Kansas City, Mo., daycare on Tuesday, injuring three young children and an adult, police said.
Authorities say a parked car crashed through the front of Christian Academy daycare after being hit by an SUV. Two children inside the care center became trapped underneath the car, and another child inside the building was also hurt, according to Kansas City Police. Also injured was the driver of the SUV, believed to be around 80-years-old, police said.
All four were taken to local hospitals with serious but not life threatening injuries, according to authorities.
Police believe about 40 children were at the daycare at the time and all have been accounted for.
Photos from the scene showed a badly damaged SUV near the daycare, which was missing a large section of its front wall.
Tony Bennett, grandson of the owner of the car that was catapulted into the daycare, told NBC's Kansas City affiliate KSHB that he rushed in to help when he heard the crash.
"I started helping like trying to kick down the doors to get all the kids out," Bennett told the station. "It was devastating to hear all the kids crying and it made you want to do whatever you could do to make everything better."
Shayla Davis told the station her son, Zaire, was one of the children trapped beneath the car. He told Davis he woke up with a "car and big wheels" over him. Zaire is in the hospital with a broken hip, but is expected to make a full recovery, the mother said.
KSHB also reported 67 customers in the area are without power because of the accident.
