There may not have been any eggs frying on the sidewalk, but large parts of the United Kingdom have been basking in a heatwave of their own in recent days, with a maximum temperature of 31.4 degrees Celsius (88.5 degrees Fahrenheit) recorded at Heathrow on Saturday.

At one school in Wales, boys have been wearing skirts to cope with the heat because shorts are banned, ITV News reported.
