The charter captain said Sapp was reaching for a lobster when a shark apparently had the same idea, and bit him. He is expected to be fine.

Retired NFL player and Hall of Famer Warren Sapp was bitten by a shark while fishing for lobster off the coast of Florida this week.

Sapp, who played for the University of Miami Hurricanes before embarking on a 13-season career with the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, posted a photo on Facebook Wednesday showing the bite he received on his arm.

"You should see the condition the shark is in," the former defensive tackle joked.

The charter company Two Conchs Charter said Sapp was attacked by a shark while lobstering. Charter captain Jack Carlson told the Tampa Bay Times that Sapp will be fine.

"He was lobstering with me and a shark bit Sapp while he was grabbing the lobster. He's OK,” Carlson told the newspaper. The charter is based in Marathon in the Florida Keys.

Carlson told the newspaper that they were fishing in about 9 feet of water about 7 miles out from Marathon when Sapp reached for a lobster, and the shark bit him. Carlson said sharks feed on the lobsters in the area as well. He said Sapp might need stitches, but they bandaged the wound and kept on fishing.

After someone posted to Sapp’s Twitter account that "Sapp 1 – Shark – 0," Sapp seemed to correct him: "Shark-1 Me-0." Sapp, 43, was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013. He won a Super Bowl with the Bucs in the team's 48-21 win over the Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII in 2003.

It wasn't the first close encounter Sapp has had with a shark this year. Sapp posted a video to Instagram in February showing a fishing trip in which a man loses control of a shark after it was caught.

"Almost got me in the chest!" Sapp wrote. The music accompanying the video was the theme music from the 1975 film "Jaws."

Sapp seemed to be in good spirits after Wednesday's bite. He posted a photo on Twitter of a lobster catch: "Shark got a little chuck of Me. We got Dinner! #Winning."
