Police: Arrest Made in Abigail Hernandez Case

Authorities say 34-year-old Nathaniel E. Kibby of Gorham, NH has been charged with 1 count felony kidnapping

The man charged with kidnapping 15-year-old Abigail Hernandez held her against her will in a storage container behind his trailer, sources tell NECN.

Authorities say 34-year-old Nathaniel E. Kibby of Gorham, New Hampshire, was arrested and charged with one count of felony kidnapping for knowingly confining the North Conway teen with purpose to commit offense against her.

The arrest was made just after 12 p.m. Monday at Kibby's home at 4 Brookside Dr., according to police.

"He's been called crazy Nate. I don't know too much about him, he's pretty much a loner. But I always told the girls stay away from that trailer," said neighbor Debbie Demers.

Demers added that the shipping container is soundproof.

"He likes his guns and it was a little shooting range back there," she said.

Wally Corrigan Jr., whose father owns the trailer park, said he was shocked about the allegation, adding that Kibby often railed against the government.

"I figured he'd be like somebody who would be holding up the town selectmen or something because the taxes went up," he said.

Abigail returned to her home in North Conway last week after disappearing on Oct. 9, 2013 on her way home from school.

Kibby will be arraigned Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Conway District Court, and police say there will be a press briefing following the arraignment.

Police are also asking anyone with information on Kibby and anything at his home since Oct. 9, 2013 to call New Hampshire State Police at 603-271-3636 or Conway Police at 603-356-5715.
