Police Aren’t Seeking Second Suspect in Beverly Carter Murder

'No Other Suspects' in Realtor Killing: Sheriff 0:35

No other suspects are being pursued in the kidnapping and murder of Beverly Carter, an Arkansas real estate agent, authorities said Tuesday, hours after the man charged in the case pleaded not guilty.

Carter's body was discovered in a shallow grave days after she was reported missing. The suspect, Arron Lewis, has admitted kidnapping her, police say — but in comments to reporters after he was questioned, he implicated a second man named Trevor, who he described as a "co-defendant."

In a news conference Tuesday, authorities did not identify Trevor by last name, but said they brought him in for extensive questioning on Monday.

"We do not believe at this point he's involved," Pulaski County Sheriff Doc Holladay said, adding that police are not seeking any other suspects.

In footage captured by NBC affiliate KARK, Lewis said that he had not killed Carter. Asked whether he had anything to say to Carter’s family, he said: “I’m sorry.” Lewis was also asked why Carter was targeted, and he said: “She was just a woman that worked alone, a rich broker.”

Authorities are still investigating a motive in the case, and said Tuesday that Lewis was a stranger to Carter.

Carter, 49, disappeared Thursday from a home she was showing near Little Rock. Lewis, 33, was arrested Monday. He pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning to charges of kidnapping, capital murder and four counts of a felon in possession of firearms.
