BASE Jumper Dies in Plunge From Georgia TV Tower

A BASE jumper in Georgia was killed early Thursday after trying to parachute from a 2,000-feet-tall television transmitting tower, police and local media reported.

The body of Brandon Jackson, 37, was found after the jump that occurred at around 2 a.m. in Metcalfe, near the Florida border, NBC affiliate WALB reported. The parachute deployed, a sheriff's official said.

"It appeared that he had come down through some trees," Thomas County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Jones told the station. "The chute was still attached, the harness was still attached, and he had fallen all the way to the ground with the chute still in the trees."

Two others, Tom Baker, 26 and Miles Daisher, 46, were arrested for trespassing, WALB reported. The station said Jackson was a retired Army master sergeant.
