A Texas man is facing charges after police say he nearly ran over his pregnant ex-girlfriend in an incident caught on cell phone video.

Anthony Adan Escobedo, 33, was charged with assault after he allegedly stole an SUV from his ex, Jessica Alvarado, and then tried to drive off as she clung to the hood.

It happened on Interstate 45 in Houston on Wednesday, according to NBC affiliate KPRC, which received video of the incident from viewers.

In the video, Alvarado jumps onto the moving SUV as it swerves from side to side.

"It was extremely crazy. My wife was going berserk," Anthony Rodriguez, a witness, told KPRC.

Houston police told KPRC that Escobedo stole the car from Alvarado, who found him at a gas station a short while later. When he refused to get out of the driver's seat, police say she jumped on the hood to try to stop him from driving away.

"She was holding onto the windshield wipers and he was dodging left and right trying to let her off," Rodriguez said.

Police caught up with Escobedo and arrested him, the station reported. Alvarado, who is 32 weeks pregnant with his child, was taken to the hospital with scrapes and bruises.
