The lawyer for Cheryl Mills, the former chief of staff for Hillary Clinton at the State Department, asked a federal judge Wednesday to block the release of a recording of her forthcoming deposition.

Lawyers for Judicial Watch, who are inquiring into Clinton's use of a private e-mail server, will take a statement from Mills under oath on Friday.

On Wednesday, Mills' lawyer told the federal judge overseeing the case that she has no objection to making a transcript of the deposition public.

"But no additional public interest would be served by the publication of the audiovisual recording," said attorney Beth Wilkinson.

"We are concerned that snippets or sound bites of the deposition may be publicized in a way that exploits Ms. Mills's image and voice in an unfair and misleading manner."

Wilkinson said she asked Judicial Watch to agree that it would not make the recording public.

When the legal group said no, she said that raised a concern that the group plans to "exploit her image and words as part of a partisan attack against Secretary Clinton and her presidential campaign."

The judge ordered Judicial Watch and the State Department to respond by noon Thursday.
