Piers Morgan's three-year stint as host of a primetime CNN talk show is coming to an end, the cable news channel said.

The date of the final edition of "Piers Morgan Live," which currently airs at 9 p.m. in the programming block once occupied by Larry King, "is still to be determined," CNN said in a statement Sunday evening.

The news of Morgan's departure was first reported by The New York Times media columnist David Carr. He wrote that Morgan and CNN president Jeffrey Zucker "had been talking about the show's failure to connect and had decided to pull the plug, probably in March."

Morgan, a veteran of British tabloid newspapers, has hosted the eponymous show since January 2011.
