Florida police are asking the public's help in retracing the final days of a criminal-law professor and blogger who was found murdered in his garage. Investigators have released few details about the fatal shooting of Daniel Markel, who was shot in the head July 18 at his home in an upscale neighborhood of Tallahassee. But on Monday, detectives appealed for anyone who had seen Markel in certain places on the day of his death or the day before to come forward. The locations include a shopping strip, the area around Florida State University Law School, a synagogue and an intersection where there was an unrelated shooting in May.

Police also released a portion of the emergency dispatch call notes, which confirm that Markel was sitting in his car when he was shot. The notes reveal he was unable with communicate to the person who called 911, who reported the driver-side window was "bashed open" and the driver was "bleeding and unable to tell the caller what is going on."

Police previously asked the public for information about a silver sedan that was seen in the area on the day of the killing but that could have just been a passerby or delivery vehicle. Markel, 41, a divorced father of two, had worked at FSU since 2005 and was the founder of the PrawsBlawg site.
