A Washington state medical examiner's office confirmed Friday that a body found in a heavily wooded area near Auburn Thursday is that of "August: Osage County" actress Misty Upham, and said she was dead two days before her family filed a missing person report.

The King County Medical Examiner's Office said it had not yet determined a cause of death, but said Upham, who has also appeared in the films "Django Unchained" and "Frozen River" died on Oct. 5. Her body was found by a family member at the bottom of an embankment near the White River at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Upham's father filed a missing person report with the Auburn Police Department on Oct. 7, saying no one had seen or heard from the actress since two days earlier. Upham's family has criticized Auburn police for how it handled the case, and told NBC affiliate KING that investigators didn't take her disappearance seriously. Auburn Police Commander Steve Stocker told the station detectives did investigate and that “we did everything we could on this case.”
