Dennis Hastert, the ex-Speaker of the House indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday, got a mysterious phone call during an appearance on C-SPAN last November.

Politicos and observers are now asking if there's any link between the call and allegations that Hastert concealed bank cash withdrawals to keep a "prior misconduct" secret.

Hastert had been on C-SPAN's "Washington Journal" to discuss the midterm elections when a call came in from "Bruce" from Illinois, according to the video, which was resurrected by The Hill newspaper.

"Hello, Denny," Bruce says.

"Hey, how are you doing?" Hastert responds.

"Pretty good," Bruce continues. "Remember me from Yorkville?"

Bruce then laughs and hangs up instead of asking a question.

There was no evidence Friday suggesting there was a connection between the call and the indictment.

Hastert was a high school teacher and coach in Yorkville, Illinois, from 1965 to 1981. In the indictment, he's accused of agreeing to pay hush money in 2010 totaling $3.5 million to an "Individual A" from Yorkville to keep his alleged misconduct quiet. The individual isn't named.
