A five-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being shot in the head during a drive-by shooting in Detroit on Tuesday night. The victim was sitting on a couch inside his house on Detroit's east side when the shooting took place, police said. Multiple shots were fired and investigators believe the bullet that struck the boy may have come through the front window. He was transported to the Children's Hospital of Michigan where he was listed in a critical condition late Tuesday, NBC station WDIV reported.

Assistant Police Chief James White said the boy was "alert" as he left the scene. "We have multiple rounds that hit the house and now we're trying to determine if the house was a target [or] if it was random," he added. Police believe the boy and his mother were the only people in the house at the time of the shooting.
