A 79-year-old woman has died after an unknown assailant beat her with a golf club and stabbed her with scissors while she was tending to her garden in Houston, officials said.

Houston Police said that Su-Jung Teng was gardening when an "unknown" male suspect entered her property and attacked.

The elderly gardener tried to escape but the suspect followed her from the garden into a garage where he allegedly beat and stabbed her, NBC affiliate KPRC reported.

Police said Teng's husband tried to fend off the attacker and then called 911.

"I was reading the newspaper, right in the kitchen, and I heard that screaming," Teng's husband told KPRC.

The suspect fled and Teng was pronounced dead at the scene after succumbing to stab wounds, police added. Investigators do not have a motive for the attack.
