Flash-flood warnings were in effect for parts of Arizona on Wednesday after heavy rainfall turned roads into moving rivers, stranding motorists and flooding several streets. The National Weather Service issued the flash-flood warnings hot on the heels of downpours on Tuesday. Sixteen people were rescued by the Phoenix Fire Department after water from an overflowing canal flooded one street, according to NBC station KPNX.

Dramatic footage from the Phoenix area showed one stranded motorist sitting on his car’s roof as a fire truck tried to move closer. As the floodwaters surged, rocking the car, the man jumped toward the firefighters and was pulled into their truck.
