French train attack hero Spencer Stone has been able to get up out of a hospital bed after being stabbed during a fight in Sacramento early Thursday, hospital officials said.

Airman First Class Spencer Stone, 23, "is awake, able to get out of bed and in good spirits" at UC Davis Medical Center, the hospital said Friday. His condition was upgraded from serious to fair.

Stone was stabbed three times in the torso by an assailant who appears to have attacked him from behind during a brawl outside a nightclub in Sacramento at around 12:45 a.m., police said. Police are still looking for two suspects in the stabbing.

Stone, along with his childhood friends Alek Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler, received France's Legion d'Honneur for their roles subduing a gunman who opened fire on a Paris-bound train in August. Stone was stabbed with a box cutter several times during that incident.
